The Japanese island of Hashima, which was bought by the “Mitsubishi” corporation at the end of the 19th century with the aim of exploiting coal below sea level, was made official in 2015 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As a significant site of the new era of Japanese architecture, the island is still challenging to consider even after its complete abandonment in the mid-seventies of the 20th century, not only because of the collected testimonies of the past, but also as a symbolic warning on the question of the duration of progress in capitalist society.
Prof. Dr. Ana Došen graduated from the Department of Japanese Language and Literature, Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade. During her undergraduate studies, she was a scholarship recipient of the Ministry of Education for many years and a scholarship recipient of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway. She received her doctorate at the Faculty of Media and Communications, Singidunum University, majoring in Transdisciplinary Studies of Contemporary Art and Media.
During her postgraduate studies, she trained professionally in Japan, as a scholarship holder of the Japan Foundation (Kokusai Koryu Kikin).
