- Belgrade (Serbia), November 3–13, 2026
- More information on Instagram: viz.antrop
How do we approach the study of public space? Where are the boundaries between public and private, and how do we document them? What are the ethical dilemmas of street and documentary photography? How can a chosen subject be contextualized and presented as authentically as possible?
We will look for answers to these and many other questions through visual anthropology, documentary and street photography, together with guest lecturer Nemanja Podraščić aka Dokumentovano (@dokumentovano).
What to expect?
- theory sessions and discussions on photography and visual anthropology
- hands-on fieldwork exploring public space
- developing your own authorial approach
- ethical aspects of photographing in public space
- group analysis and selection of photographs
- shaping photographic material into a meaningful whole
- working on a photo essay and an ethnographic text for the “Vizantrop” 2027 journal
đź”´ Application deadline: October 26, 2026
🟢 Participation fee: €130
🔵 Exhibition: Selected photographs created during the workshop will be presented at a group exhibition as part of the 8th “Vizantrop” Festival of Engaged Film, at the “Zastava je pala na nas” Gallery (@zastava_je_pala_na_nas).
Participants will receive a certificate upon completion of the workshop.
🟡 Schedule and location: The first two days of the workshop are dedicated to theory sessions from 5 to 8 PM, followed by hands-on fieldwork, with a group selection and analysis of the resulting work at the end of the workshop. The workshop takes place at the “Krov” Social Center, Kraljice Marije 47, Belgrade.
The photo essay and the ethnographic text are complementary forms through which a researcher’s experiences, perceptions and reflexive positions can be articulated. Bringing them together creates a richer understanding of social relations, spatial practices and the everyday experience of space.
No previous experience required.
