As part of the pre-festival meetings of the festival of engaged ethnographic film “Vizantrop”, which will be held from 23-26 November at the “Vlada Divljan” Culture Center, we are showing ethnographic films that were in the selection of earlier editions.

This Friday at the “Roof” Community Center we are watching the film “Nafkot”, the winner of last year’s festival, by the Israeli anthropologist Malka Shabtai.

Synopsis:

dr. Malka Shabtai is an Israeli anthropologist and activist who deals with different Jewish communities, travels to Ethiopia to visit a community with which she is closely connected. This time he arrives on set after a request by the Community to document and share his unique story of fighting for his identity and survival. Abera Teshome, a young artist, asks her to join her journey so that he can complete the missing pieces of forming his Jewish identity. They travel to visit the first hidden synagogue and participate in the re-enactment of the sacred ceremony of the Red Cow. When he returns home, his mother gives him her blessings, and he assumes new leadership.
