At the last event in the pre-festival program, we will watch the film Rebel Objects, by Carolina Arias Ortiz from Costa Rica. This film is the winning film from the third festival of engaged ethnographic film Vizantrop.
Before the screening, we will present the program of the fifth Vizantrop festival, which takes place from 23-26. November in the Culture Center Vlada Divljan.
The movie starts at 8:00 p.m., and after the discussion you can play various board games with us (Klask, Dixit, Kriziko, Don’t get angry man, Detective’s club, chess) and listen to Aleksandar Jevtić, who will play “driving and lifting ambient organic Black bass” for us.
Carolina returns to Costa Rica and tries to rebuild her relationship with her father. After a few months, her father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. At that moment, Carolina meets Iphigenia, an archaeologist specializing in stone spheres found south of Costa Rica; She decides to follow Iphigen’s journey through the erased indigenous history of her country. Through the objects and their stories, Karolina learns a different way of relating to death.
Carolina Arias Ortiz was born in Costa Rica in 1987. At the age of 12, she migrated with her mother and sister to Brussels, Belgium. Her concern for understanding cultural differences led her to study anthropology. In 2010, she traveled to Barcelona and received a scholarship for post-graduate studies in documentary film, after which she decided to return to Latin America, and lived in Ecuador for 4 years. She currently lives in Costa Rica where she works as a lecturer in anthropology and film.
