Promotion of the book: Women’s Leadership in Music: Modes, Legacies, Alliances

We invite you to the promotion of the book Women’s Leadership in Music: Modes, Legacies, Alliances, organized by the “Vizantrop” collective and with the support of the Department of Ethnomusicology of the FMU and the Association for Popular Music Studies. The promotion will be held at the “Roof” Community Center on September 25, 2024, starting at 7 p.m.
This book was published by the German publishing house TRANSCRIPT –
Independent Academic Publishing, within the series entitled Music and Sound Culture (2023). It was created within the scientific research project Female leadership in music (FLIM) supported by the Science Fund of the RS, within the PROMIS program. The book can be downloaded from the publisher’s website (transcript-verlag.de)
In the book, the concept of female leadership on music scenes and within communities and collectives of different types is considered in a wide cultural, geographical, genre and ideological scope and in a global scope, from traditional musical practices and the role of women in their maintenance and transformation, through popular musical genres, issues work and the music market, the actions of women in repressive contexts, to women’s activist work through music and the fight for women’s rights, the rights of others and the visibility of communities.
The book will be presented by editors Dr. Iva Nenić, assistant professor at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade and Dr. Linda Ćimardi, manager of the project “Black Music in the Region of (Former) Yugoslavia” (DFG) at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg. Dr. Sanja Ranković, associate professor at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade, and Adriana Sabo, doctoral student and theoretician of popular music, will speak.
The event will be of a hybrid nature, with the possibility of online monitoring via Zoom.
